How to avoid being a New Year's party cliche

At every New Year's celebration, in every town, someone behaves in a way that other people, unfortunately, remember for most of the next year. Make sure it's not you – not only can it be potentially damaging to your career but also to your love life. A bad reputation can damage your confidence and put the cute guy from IT off asking you out because he has heard the stories. Here are the most common clich?s and how to avoid them.
1. The drunk

You really don't want to be the person who has to be poured into a taxi at 8pm with vomit in your hair and your shoes in your hand. The simple problem here is drinking too much and the best way to avoid this undignified role is to eat before you go, alternate soft drinks with alcoholic ones and pace yourself throughout the evening.
2. The photographer

Taking photos at a party can be a fun way to get involved and ensures you remember the evening's events after a few vinos. The trouble is that some people find it horribly intrusive and uncomfortable, especially once the photographer uploads the most incriminating pictures to a social media website. If you do adopt this role bear in mind that not everyone will feel the same way as you and ask their permission before uploading the evidence.
3. The wallflower

I know that not everyone enjoys parties – but once you are there, the impression you make will last in other guests' minds, so it's better to make it a good one. Tips on how to be the life and soul of the party include smiling, mingling, dancing if other people are, chatting about a range of topics, making an effort with your appearance and not drinking too much. Also, don't forget to say goodbye and thank your host for having you.
4. The gossip

It can seem so tempting to share all those juicy little bits of information after a couple of drinks but without doubt the gossip is the least likeable of all the party clich?s. If you get a reputation as a gossip it will be hard to shake. The best way to avoid it is to mind your own business not other people's. Remember those who gossip with you will gossip about you.
